Council 400 Fights for No Excuse Absentee Balloting!

The Council 400 Legislative Action Committee has identified No Excuse Absentee balloting as a bill that we are supporting for the safety and convenience of retirees.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill recently published a column in the Hartford Courant outlining the prohibitive voting process Connecticut follows along with just six other states. 

“Connecticut has among the most restrictive statutes in the country preventing voters from voting at any time except on Election Day. Only Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire and South Carolina — and Connecticut! — prevent their voters from conveniently casting their ballots before Election Day without an excuse.

The inflexibility of Connecticut’s laws was laid bare this past year as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the state to make large but temporary changes to its election administration.”
